In support of Sue I should point out a few things that I have experienced PERSONALY as regards "INFORMATION" and its relative availability.

- At first Paperlate, and the net in general, were a place that bands (and to a greater extent, their management) considered to be a wonderful place to post news in relative anonymity. It worked in the early days since there were not THAT MANY people who were linked up. Unfortunately now, things are a bit different. A release to any individual on the net who knows what they are doing is as good as calling up the "working press" News travels fast.

Poor Nick Davis caught his share of grief just for sending me a review copy cassette of Strictly Inc before the album was available to anyone else. As it turned out, once I posted my review, H&R were hounded by a number of people who bitched about not getting one as well. Next time noone will get one.

The other aspect of this problem is the profoundly mercurial nature of the music business. In my discussions with Billy Budis (Steve's manager) I am often cautioned about which information is not "set in stone" yet and as such would be better left alone for the time being. They have had a few bad experiences with information being prematurely posted whic turned out to be wrong. I have come to believe that VIRTUALLY NOTHING IS EVER READY/FINISHED/RELEASED WHEN IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. As for the box set. Those dates for its release going back a year or so actusally were legit. They were all the sort of "barring any unforseen problems" (which in the box sets case means "assuming Jonathan King croaks tomorrow"). There is not much we can do, and the only thing the label can do is stop leaking info out to us ahead of schedule.

The bottom line here is simply that the net has gotten too big to be trusted with "insider information". 2 Years ago it would be unthinkable that Hit & Run would be swamped with phone calls from the general public. But now, a person can, with the click of a button, pass along phone numbers, addresses, etc. to anyone regardless of whether they are interested. As a result, you have a bunch of worthless tossers being given information (information they wouldn't have the resourses or energy to get themselves) that they can then use to pick up the phone and call people who don't need to be hearing from them.

I think we brought it on ourselves.

On a lighter note: Phil's first single is entitled "Dance into the light" or has that already been posted? I left the release dsate at work, so I'll post it tomorrow. Yes the single is Carpet Crewlers, and the latest on that is that Gabriel is not happy with the vocal that he has done so far and they may get rerecorded again. Steve was not called up to do any modifications for the single, but, for those of you who wanted me to ask about his relations with Tony, well..... the extra track that may appear on an American release of Genesis Revisited is a new version of Los Endos, which Steve is working on with Tony.

There now.
