It has been quiet lately regarding the boxed set, so I went through my assorted channels and this is what I was told by Nick Davis:

Also I was told that Tony's album is done, but they have not set a release date yet. We will hear about it when it happens.

I just finished speaking with the ever diligent Alan Hewitt of The Waiting Room magazine and there is some good information to pass along.
First is news on the box set. According to the individual who is "organizing" the box set (as opposed to Nick Davis, who is engineering it) they hope to have it out some time in November. The latest on its contents is as follows:
disc 1- Entirely made up of live Lamb material.
disc 2- Entirely filled with unreleased tracks and b-sides. Apparently they have even gotten some tapes from before the first album which should be included.
discs 2 and 3- Will contain a mixture of unreleased material, b-sides, and live material from other tours (certainly including the Selling England tour)
Here's the frosting on the cake. It sounds like they will not fill up any space with already available album tracks!! No mention was made of the petition that was sent, and the assumption is that it got filed, so to speak.
I just heard from Alan Hewitt of the Waiting Room, (who in turn received his information from Mario Giametti of the Italian fanzine Dusk) a tentative list of at least some of the tracks that are to be included on "The Gabriel Years" box. They are as follows:
that's all we have heard, but i'll keep you informed when I hear more.

******Genesis news******
-The box set: Apparently now the first 2 discs will contain live lamb material (most of which will be from the Shrine Auditorium show, with the exception of IT) Apparently Gabriel is working on remixing some of the vocals from that show given the old troubles with the costumes, etc. There will be a 72 page booklet in the box which will include a tourography which was based on the one assembled by the Waiting Room folks and was updated and corrected by Tony.
Which brings up one final word revelation. Remember the talk about the Silent Mirror bood that circulated a while back, with the question as to its date? The date is correct! March 7, 1971 It was the first show they did in Europe and was one of 3 that they did at that time in Belgium.
That's all for now,
more when I hear it,

As for Box Set:PROVISIONALLY:
The whole Lamb Live
Quite a bit of Selling England(live)
Suppers Ready (live)
Demo's etc..
But it's still coming together....
Please circulate

As far as the track listing goes, they have only last week begun to wade through the very old, (many before the first album) tapes to see what can be used. I sounds like they will be looking through the nightride tapes to use some of that material. The producer of that BBC session has finally found the old masters from the session and is checking through them to see if the legendary (and apparently very different) version of Dusk is there and was not labeled. Everyone had given that particular performance up for lost.
Mike's "Another Cup of Coffee" single, with 2 unreleased tracks is supposed to be coming out in the UK on Monday.
Still no clear information on exactly what or how both Steve and Peter are going to "fix up" some sections of the live Lamb material, I'll let you know if I hear anything.
Oh yes, two other bits. Silver Song may or may not be on the box, the decision has not yet been made. Ant's back catalog should be available this fall, and the only dangling modifier with this news is the somewhat uncertain future of the Tarka recording. That particular album apparently has to jump through a whole buch more hoops than the others. The compilation CD should be here in a month or so. Private Parts & Pieces IX is done.

And for November 6, 1995, <"Genesis Archives Vol. l, 1967-75" is a four-CD set covering the band's Peter Gabriel years, and will be released simultaneously by Atlantic in the States and Virgin internationally. Each disk is over 70 minutes long, and Genesis fans will be delighted to know that almost all of the material is previously unreleased or making its CD debut. Included, for example, will be the entire Lamb Lies Down on Broadway from the tour of the same name. All the live material has been remixed by the band's engineers. Also included according to Simon Hopkins of Virgin's UK office, are "lots of demos, which go back as far as their first lineup in school together; single B-sides, and BBC radio live tracks."
Hopkins says the project has been entirely the band's, including Peter Gabriel. The 6x12 inch longbox includes a 72-page book which featues a long journalistic history of the band by Chris Welsh, in addition to shorter essays by people involved with the band, including promoters, roadies, and the members themselves. The booklet also gives a comprehensive gig list which covers the band's life during the period, plus an extract from Pete Frame's rock family tree.
Just that. Peter Morton, one of the Waiting Room staff who has been working with Glen Colson, got a call from him the other day and was told that the tourography-gig guide was going to be dropped from the 72 page booklet in the first Box set.
This seems to fit with the fact that the release date for the box has been bumped back from the Nov. 6 date that some have quoted from Ice magazine. The word is that no date has been set, and the estimates put it sometime in january of next year.
later,

Hello folks,
I spoke to Carol Willis-Impey today and we had a rather interesting conversation. A number of rumors can be at least semi-retired.
The box set is not finished at this point, due primarily to a lot of legal wrangling over the very early material. There seem to be some negotiations not yet finished with J King. At this time there is no set date for release. Definitely not before christmas, and what I was told was it would be either next spring or next fall.
On the same topic, there is not set list of tracks (contrary to what was published in the Italian fan mag "Dusk") for the above reasons, and the fact that there are still some archives (read: attics) to be explored for more recordings. The word on the gig-guide is that it is not complete enough for inclusion in the booklet, but there is a slight hope that will change.
The defintive listing is....
CD1
CD2
CD3
The lamb Live Shrine 24/1/75
side 1 as on the album with intros
CD4
as above side 2 The Lamb
Spelling mistakes are all mine!

I can't believe that the posted set list is actually finalized, in light of Bill Brink's post about them delaying until Jan or later to negotiate for rights from King and dig up more. I also cannot accept that The Movement will not be included in light of its importance to Genesis. Until they hit the shelves and I read the set list off the box I won't believe The Movement isn't included.
Scott
If you consider that they have 4 CDs to work with, that's 70x4=280 minutes. I have a complete lamb show that's under 100 minutes, giving about 180 minutes left. Even with say 70-80 minutes of live stuff from the Selling, Foxtrot, and NC tours, that leaves a good 100 minutes for outtakes. My question is: given the "set list" that was posted, can we account for 100 minutes?
Scott
Here it is, as given out by Glen Colson, and verified by several sourses. This looks very interesting.

8. One Day -Also from the '68 session, and without the strings.
9. Where the Sour Turns to Sweet- '68 D

Hi,
I recently received the latest issue of the German Genesis Fanclub Magazine *it* which had a couple of interviews that contained some very interesting information about the boxed set. (The magazine, which is in German, is available from Helmut Janisch, Postfach 261, 36002 Fulda, Germany. It is really nice.) An interview with Tony Banks revealed the following information. Tony said that there are some songs that no one can find, including an untitled 20 minute song that was played for a "possible BBC series." Bits of it ended up on Fountain of Salmacis, In the Cage and Anyway. Tony said he would like to hear it but no one has a copy. Also lost are potential singles recorded in the very early days called The Wooden Mask and Going Out to Get You, although a demo of the latter song will be in the box. There is also no tape of The Light except for poor sound quality bootlegs. Tony seems very much aware of the bootlegs--he also mentioned that The Shepherd, Pacidy and Let Us Now Make Love are bootlegged.
The most interesting information is that Peter Gabriel resang the entire Lamb for the live version of that, although they used only 30-40 per cent of the new singing when they mixed the final version for the box. Imagine that--a great portion of the Lamb live vocals are from 1995 recorded at Real World Studios! Tony also said that the song *it* was no good on the live version so they took Peter's new vocals and remixed them with the studio version of the song and made a new "live" version that way. Tony seemed very happy about this since he says that the mix of *it* and a few other songs on the Lamb was done poorly, under great time pressure. (He also said that the vinyl mastering of Selling England killed the sound, especially on Firth of Fifth, and that he is very happy with how nice the remaster sounds.) Gabriel also re-did a few parts of Supper's Ready, from the beginning. Tony said that all band members but Phil Collins worked on the live material. Phil was busy with his solo stuff. Steve Hackett re-did the ending of Supper's Ready and a few other bits as well as a few pieces from the Lamb.
Tony was also not sure what live material would go on the second box since most of the songs from that era (Trick through Duke) were on live albums. I vote for a complete Duke suite (with the musical songs at the end), and of course there is White Mountain, the Lamb Stew and Eleventh Earl of Mar, to name a few that were not on any actual release but were played live in 1976-77.
There was also an interview with Glen Colson who is assembling the box sets, sort of overseeing the whole project. Glen Colson says that the first booklet will contain over a hundred photos from Armando Gallo, Richard Macphail and some from Tony Banks including one with John Silver. Colson also said that The Silver Song will not be released because they don't like it. He also said that the last box will be 3CDs and a CD ROM. Colson also said that they cannot locate the master of Tony Stratton Smith Presents Genesis in Concert, which I think is the 1976 film. That makes me wonder whether the Japanese Laser Disk that came out a couple years ago was a pirate.
I hope I made no mistakes in the translation. For those who can read German, I recommend this magazine very much--it, The Waiting Room and Dusk from Italy are all really great to have. Unfortunately, *it* has discontinued its English translation, although Dusk still has one. This issue of *it* has a nice photo of Tony Banks on the front taken last year, and a very weird photo of Peter Gabriel from 1973 holding some kind of large metal tray.

+++ The box set is slated for an October release, no exact day is set. There is a a very strong chance that it will be a "Limited Edition" release. Apparently Atlantic wanted to make it VERY limited, but H&R are thinking more in terms of 60-100 thousand copies. It is apparently finished now, and the last work to be done is on the package and book that will be in it.
+++ There will be a video to support the box. Where the footage is coming from is not clear, but it will no doubt include a lot of stuff that noone has ever seen.
*** Here's the kicker... Gabriel is currently working over the vocals of an old track (which, they would not say) that is to be released as a SINGLE in advance of the box.
Spoke with Carol Willis this morning. The folks at Hit & Run are rather amused at the rumors, they seem to be keeping a list of "New Vocalists". They even had a few that I haven't seen on Paperlate (not that I have been looking). The tangible info that I got was essentially the standard Genesis news.
NOTHING IS DECIDED YET. Those bits that fit this category are the following:
1. They aven't chosen a new vocalist.
2. They haven't chosen the track for the single.
ok?
As for real stuff, they are expecting the box to be out in November. Phil's album wil be out in October, and they do not want the 2 to appear at the same time. As for the business about Chris Welch, I am somewhat releived. I was told that the book (now at 78-80 pages) wil be made up of a collection of essays by several people: some (like Welch) are old journalists that were around in those days, others (like the late Tony Stratton Smith) worked with the bandack then.
On a fairly amusing point, Carol remarked that they were thinking of calling the box "Ant's Attic" due to all the ancient material that keeps being found there.
There ya go,
-Bill
Hi everyone,
I have just read an article on the alt.music.genesis newsgroup which gave the track listing for the upcoming boxed set (Anthology 1967-75). It was from a fellow called Ben Morgan. He claims to have seen the proof of the artwork and liner notes which is "EXQUISITE. Lots of real old photos of all that freaky shit they were up to back then, and although I didn't count, it looks like the booklet will be easily 30 pages."
The track listing that he managed to write down was:
"The first two CDs were a live version of the Lamb.
Disc 3:
Dancing With The Moonlit Knight (Live)
Firth of Fifth (Live)
More Fool Me (Live)
Supper's Ready (Live)
I Know What I Like (Live)
Stagnation (BBC Live recording)
Twilight Alehouse (Single B-side 1973)
Happy The Man (Single A-side 1971)
Watcher Of The Skies (unreleased single version 1972)
Disc 4:
In The Wilderness (rought mix without strings 1968)
Shepherd (BBC Nightride 1970)
Pacidy (BBC Nightride 1970)
Let Us Now Make Love (BBC Nightride 1970)
Going Out To get You (Demo 1969)
Dusk (Demo 1969)
Build Me A Mountain (rough mix 1968)
One Day (Demo 1968)
Where The Sour Turns To Sweet (Demo 1968)
In The Beginning (Demo 1968)
The Magic Of Time (Demo 1968)
Hey! (Demo 1968)
Hidden In The World Of Dawn (Demo 1968)
Sea Bee (Demo 1968)
The Mystery Of The Flannan Isle Lighthouse (Demo 1968)
Hair On The Arms And Legs (Demo 1968)
She Is Beautiful (Demo 1967 ... Later 'The Serpent')
Image Blown Out (Demo 1967)
Try A Little Sadness (Demo 1967)
Patricia (Demo 1968 ... Later 'In Hiding')"
And there we have it. Has everyone stopped drooling yet ? I haven't. Ben also suggests that he will have the chance to get another look at the notes and says that he will try and find out any queries anyone may have. His Email address is bmorgan@mail2.sas.upenn.edu for those who are dying with curiosity.
I half expected there to be something on todays Paperlate digest, but there was nothing. I suspect that had Ben known about it he would have posted the details here too.
Let us hope that the details are correct !!
