I know that it has been a while since there has been any real news amongst all the speculation and idle chatter. That is now about to change. As per the requests that a few of you have made to me, I have gotten all the information I can on the current state of affairs with the gang. It goes like this....

Genesis
+++ The box set is slated for an October release, no exact day is set. There is a a very strong chance that it will be a "Limited Edition" release. Apparently Atlantic wanted to make it VERY limited, but H&R are thinking more in terms of 60-100 thousand copies. It is apparently finished now, and the last work to be done is on the package and book that will be in it.
+++ There will be a video to support the box. Where the footage is coming from is not clear, but it will no doubt include a lot of stuff that noone has ever seen.
[Read more about the Box Sets (not news!)]
*** Here's the kicker... Gabriel is currently working over the vocals of an old track (which, they would not say) that is to be released as a SINGLE in advance of the box.
^^^ And a little post-Kicker: There has NOT been a firm decision on the vocalist! I repeat, There has not been a firm decision on the vocalist. As things stand right now, the main contender is someone who is simply not known in the music industry, and the report from H&R (limited though it may be) is that this individual outdoes both Phil and Peter on the older material. This guy is literally an unknown, with a regular job, the works.

Phil
+++ His next album will be delayed slightly, something about his moving to a new house.
+++ July will be a big time for shows. He will be performing at the Prince's Trust show in royal Albert Hall on July 11, then he will be doing a series of "jazz shows" as follows:
7/12,13 -Monaco
7/15 -Perusia
7/16 -Antibes
7/17 -Montreaux
7/20 -Vittoria
7/21 -Valencia
Fun times in Italy it would seem

Mike & the Mechanics
+++ Just this past weekend performed at a couple of festivals in Germany. Rock-something and Rock-something.
+++ They just reissued a single which has the original mix of Silent Running, with Stop Baby and Plain & Simple on it. The catalog number is VSCDP 1585. Why, is not really known.

Steve Hackett
+++ Still a relative cloak of secrecy from Hackett's camp, but there seems to be a couple of new albums on the horizon. One will apparently be a "rock" album, with a host of different musicians: One of whom will almost certainly be John Wetton (hopefully driving another nail into that particular rumor). Apparently this album will be released in Japan first, and hopefully elsewhere some time in August.
+++ After that, there seems to be another acoustic album brewing. We shall see.

Anthony Phillips
+++ At this point all of the back catalog albums have been released, with the exception of Tarka, which is slated for a June 10 release, replete with a new cover and liner notes-compliments of Mr Williamson.
+++ The US source (or perhaps distributor), of the cataog is
Resurgence Records
61 E 8th Street
Greenwich Village, NY 10003
+++ There is supposed to be a web site for Voiceprint which has an address that should be something like: http://www.colloquium.co.uk/thewilderness. I haven't been able to find it yet.
+++ Private Parts & Pieces IX should be out in September.

Peter Gabriel
Still remains the biggest mystery. He is is working on a new album, in spite of all the rumour to the effect that he has some 40 hours of recordings done. One of the tracks for this album was apparently played at the Witness show, but as yet has no title.

Other notes
David Thomas has an album coming out on voiceprint which does rather direct homage to Genesis (including a picture from the very old days whe they rehearsed at his house, and he did some backing vocals. It should be interesting.
That's all the news that I could find. More when it comes my way.
Later,
-Bill
