I don't mean to vent only to PAZP, but to everyone who is seeing things from this point of view. This is the most cynical attitude I've ever heard and if everyone in the world felt this way about similar situations in life and business (partners moving on, attempting something that could possibly fail, risking reputation) then nothing new would ever be accomplished. Twenty years ago ppl said the same exact thing about Genesis sans Peter Gabriel - that it was just all over. Between the time of Peter's departure and the release of A Trick of the Tail, Genesis had been written off by *everyone* (except themselves). I don't understand how ppl can write Genesis off once again based on speculation. Let the guys release a new album, *then* decide if it has any merit.

I agree, Tony and Mike are in a very rough spot now and I don't envy them being in this situation. But challenges in life help individuals rise to the occasion. History is full of examples where artists, writers, painters, business people, etc. were written off or down and out and considered played out, and they bounced back to the top of their craft. If Tony and Mike or *anyone* didn't believe that they still had it in them, then what's the point of getting out of bed in the morning?

I hope that this was intended as a joke. Phil Collins owes us *nothing*! What incredible balls to expect that he should do *anything* only to humour us - or even only to humour *all* his fans! Imagine if you were at a job that you didn't like anymore and you left and then a "grass roots" movement sprang up demanding that you go back. Doesn't Phil deserve to have what he wants? If you're so devoted to him, then why would you even suggest that he continue in Genesis if that's not what's in his heart anymore?

> I love Mike and Tony, but I consider it offensive that they plan to
> continue Genesis after this disaster,

This is not a disaster. World War 2 was a disaster. Bosnia is a disaster. This is a change in work situation. Life is full of them. I consider it offensive that anyone on this list would second guess what Tony and Mike should do. Have any of us had the level of success in our own arts and businesses that Mike and Tony have had in theirs? How can we possibly be so prideful as to suggest that we know what's best for them? It's outrageous!

> and I will not spend a dime on
> any Genesis album without Phil

That's *your* prerogative. That's how *you* cast your vote!

I am sorry if the tone of this mail is harsh and I certainly don't mean it as a personal attack on PAZP. He or she has voiced opinions that appear on this list frequently. I don't understand this line of thinking *at all*.

This is only my very hot winded opinion. I've obviously misplaced my sense of humour, but lately I get angry every time I read Paperlate.
