I happened to find a brand-new book on UK progressive rock
in '70s, which cover Pink Floyd, Yes, King Crimson, ELP,
and Genesis. This book includes an interview with Steve,
which is sadly all translated into Japanese, but is AWFULLY
informative as well. He talked about his new album, his musical
roots, the roles he played in Genesis, how they composed songs like
Supper's Ready, the relatinship between Peter and other members,
the departure of Phil, and why he left Genesis, etc. Today I
will give you a brief summary of what he talked about his new album.
1. He is REMAKING Genesis' songs he involved in.
2. Special (and surprising) guests are:
- Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO)
and many.."Too many to remember!"
3. Tracks are all Genesis' songs except two:
- Wather Of The Skies
4. One of the two non-Genesis songs are originally written
by Peter (Gabriel!) around 1973. The song was one of Steve's
favoriets and was stared to be rehearsed but was never
recored by the band. Steve recently talked with Peter and
said that he wanted to do the song. Finally they reached an
agreement that he finished the song using both Steve's and
Peter's ideas. Paul Carrack sang the song using LPO. The song
is called "Valley Of The Kings."
5. The keyboard part of "The Fountain Of Salmacis" is to be
performed by LPO: organ part by flute, Mellotron part by real
strings, and drum part by timpani.
6. The album will be finished in the middle of May and will be
released in August or September by a Japanse record company.
(Mercury Record -a Polygram Company?)
That's all for today. Sorry for my poor English. If you get interested,
I'll post more of this interview and more info on the album.
Some of you may not believe this info. Actually I cannot belive myself!
Let's wait and see what will come out in August or September.
