Hello everyone...... and I am delighted to be able to report to Paperlate that with Mike and the Mechanics playing my home town of Brighton tonight we took the opportunity to spend some time with the band and amongst a number of issues broached The Big Subject!...Here's the key points for you all to ponder!!! (and purr-lease no more fighting....it's difficult enough being Genesis fans without our hurting one another!.....OK!)

1. I can state that Mike left us in no doubt whatsoever that he believes the new Genesis material (and yes he used that now famous "darker and heavier" phrase!!) to be very very strong indeed. He feels extremely confident about the new direction in which he and Tony are taking the band. He spoke with more certainty about the excellence of their new songs than I can ever recall him talking about previous Genesis music prior to it's release. I know I can't wait to hear the new material...
...hopefully in the not too distant future!!!!!!

2. Mike revealed to our surprise that the new Genesis album itself is far more complete than we had initially been led to believe...this is another clear indication that to all intents and purposes Mike and Tony are now Genesis and any other persons brought in to fill the other roles will be on a jobbing basis (at least initially!).

3. Apparently they now have a singer whom they are considering very seriously. This would seem to rule out a certain Scottish gentleman of our mutual acquaintance, given Aerial's posting about this same individual not yet having been approached for the vacancy!!!..... Nuff said!

As always Mike could not have been more pleasant to speak to...obviously he has to keep his cards fairly close to his chest....but given these current constraints was remarkably forthcoming to us....

As to the Mechanics gig.....the guys put on another excellent performance in front of a packed Brighton Centre (in effect a home gig for Mike!), the show only being slightly marred by a very vocal walk out by a number of fans in protest at Paul Young's butchering of I Can't Dance, which as usual he managed to perform without even a scintilla of humour!!!!! (those of you who saw a certain ex lead singer of Genesis sing the track will know exactly what I mean!).

Watch this space for more news from the Genesis camp as we receive it..these are exciting times to be a Genesis fan!.......

Cheers!

Simon
